STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE MATT HAGGMAN
ON TRUMP'S REPORTED DECISION TO END DACA

Matt Haggman, a Democratic candidate for Congress in FL-27 who is a former Miami Herald investigative reporter and Knight Foundation program director, released the following statement following reports that President Trump decided to end DACA:
"At a time when we need to widen the doors of opportunity, Donald Trump would be slamming doors shut on thousands of children and young adults who want nothing more than the same opportunity to achieve their dreams as their friends, classmates, and neighbors. But Donald Trump doesn't care - he'd rather score political points. It's cruel and disgraceful.

DREAMers are part of our community -- and their talents are critical to the economic success of South Florida now and in the future. If he goes forward with it, Trump's decision to gut DACA means 50,000 Floridians who came here as undocumented immigrants when they were children and are now working and studying here legally will no longer be protected from deportation. My vision is about expanding opportunity and strengthening our economy, and immigrants and DREAMers are a core part of that vision. I have friends who are DREAMers. Donald Trump has been aggressively anti-immigrant for years, but that is not who we are, and Congress must act now to make DACA law. As a member of Congress I will always work to defend DACA and do everything possible to protect DREAMers.”
